0

Many parents who are currently going to college are thought of as not traditional students and they often avoid it all together due to the costs that will incur with seeking higher education. Luckily, there are many scholarships for single moms that can help to pay for educational expenses while allowing people to go back to school.

Contrary to popular belief the average age of a college student is much higher than it is thought to be. In fact, most of the people who fill up the classrooms at local colleges consist of single moms and other older adults.

There are many different methods of financial aid that is available and numerous amounts of scholarships designed to specifically help the single mother.

The fact of the matter is that the government has even set forth to help the average single mom by implementing an educational assistance plan designed specifically for them.

Finding scholarships

One reason that scholarships are so popular is that they do not have to be paid back. This is unlike loans that incur interest that also has to be paid in full upon graduation.

The very first thing that has to be done before you can ever get any type of financial aid is go online and fill out your FAFSA. This is a government form that is required and needs to be completed by March of the aid year. Once it is processed you will be open to all of the aid that you are entitled to.

The application takes a minimal amount of time to fill out and will likely ask about your family and financial situation. It will open the door up for several different scholarships for you and there are also grants that go along with this form. If you are a single mom then you will probably qualify for a Pell grant which never has to be repaid and will help you with all of the expenses that go along with being a student. You will have to attend class and keep your grades up in order to get this grant, but it is very helpful in paying your expenses.

You can also find many different scholarships by going to your financial aid office and looking at their postings. You will be able to apply for a bunch of them and likely be approved for several.

Some more rural towns offer aid to their residence that have completed at least one semester of college successfully and demonstrate the need for help.

It is not hard to find scholarships for single moms. All you have to do is put some effort into your search and have a will to succeed.
